As the busier fall and winter seasons lie ahead of us, I want to share with you how to find a healthy work/life balance. I’ll be the first to admit that it isn’t easy. When you are doing what you love, it’s sometimes hard to not overwork! However, what we all need to remember is that if we constantly give to others but fail to take care of ourselves, we will have nothing left to offer.

Take Care of Yourself

As service providers, it’s essential that we carefully monitor and recharge our bodies and spirits as needed so that we can continue to give our clients and families our best. Before I begin my day I like to take a 30 minute walk to clear my mind and start my day off right. Regular exercise releases endorphins, the “feel-good” hormone, which helps reduce stress. I’m also firm believer that exercising helps us feel and look younger.

Additionally, I am careful about what goes into my body. I take four seaweed pills a day with an 8-ounce glass of water, and stick to a nutritious diet that consists of lean meats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Choosing to eat this way isn’t just about fitting into a smaller pant size, it’s about being healthy.

Make Time for Friends/Family

Taking care of yourself is important, but so is taking care of your friends and family. I am on an airplane traveling around the world for business many days throughout the year, but I always make sure to cross off days on the calendar that are reserved for my family. Although you may love what you’re doing, life cannot be all work and no play. Remember, we do not live to work, we work to live!

Make Time for Education

I want to also remind you all how important it is to take time to educate yourself! As a Chairman of CIDESCO USA, one of my goals is to raise the bar on education in esthetics and beauty therapy. Although we live in a society where we have access to so many educational tools, many estheticians don’t set enough time aside to utilize them. I encourage you to allocate time to refresh your esthetic knowledge and expand your skills. This can begin by taking classes. There are many available at various tradeshows around the country, or Skin Care Academies (such as our Post-Graduate Skin Care Academy in Secaucus, NJ) or even online! Subscribe to industry magazines and newsletters, and take advantage of the Internet that provides a wealth of information for you.
