How To Administer Professional Skin Treatments While Client’s Wear Face Coverings

With many states mandating the use of face coverings by skin care practitioners as well as clients during services, treatments that target the eyes and body are a great way to get client’s back into your practice for both relaxing and targeted care treatments.

This has been an unprecedented year to date.  Up to 72% of people in the United States say their lives have been disrupted by COVID-19.1

Yet, just as many people were undergoing this stressful period, they were unable to have their skin concerns addressed by a professional.  As we all gradually readjust to the new normal, and as skin care spas and salons re-open with new regulations for safety, sanitation and sterilization, there are ways to address both stress as well as rejuvenate the skin.

Incorporating Seaweed into body treatments can provide a mini sea-escape for the client with great results, no matter what the season.  Here, we are also sharing a full protocol of a rejuvenating body treatment for head-to-toe relaxation based on sustainably-harvested, nutrient rich Seaweed, as well as examples of services that can be easily added to spa menus to provide when clients are wearing face coverings.  Integrate these treatments using Repêchage® professional treatment products in hygienic, uni-dose packaging for the safest, most effective services in the world.

Proper health protocols, including proper distancing, sanitation and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) should be engaged at all times.  Guidelines and protocols are available here.

Additional resources can be found through CIDESCO for revised standard operating procedures during COVID-19.

In addition, please refer to and adhere to OSHA, WHO and CDC guidelines as well as federal, state and local guidelines when performing esthetic treatments in your spa or salon.

Head-To-Toe Relaxation and Rejuvenation Seaweed Treatment Protocol

This relaxing treatment also helps to tighten and tone the appearance of the skin while it stimulates the skin surface. This hour-long intensive body treatment can be performed twice weekly with maintenance as desired.

  1. Sanitize hands with Repêchage® Hand Sanitizer Spray On antiseptic and antibacterial solution and put on nitrile gloves.
  2. Squeeze a small amount of Opti-Cleanse™ Extra Gentle Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover onto a damp cotton square and remove eye makeup.
  3. Cut open Opti-Firm® Eye Contour Cream and remove contents. Apply in circular motion towards the nose area. Follow with effleurage movements in a figure 8 using alternating hands. Then apply pressure to the orbicularis oculi muscle. Employ petrissage, pinching movement along brow bone. Stroke several times alternating fingers on corrugator muscle.  Follow with a tapotement movement for three minutes. Conclude with pressure point movements and light effleurage. Massage should last 5 – 7 minutes.
  4. Cut open Opti-Firm® Lift Mask Powder and empty contents into the enclosed medical grade rubber bowl. Add Opti-Firm® Lift Mask Gel and mix until smooth. Apply to the eye contour area using enclosed spatula. Allow the client to rest for 10-12 minutes.
  5. Spray legs and feet with Repêchage® Hand Sanitizer Spray On, a 80% alcohol solution. Use Repechage Body Exfoliating Brush and start to vigorously massage the feet, then move upwards to the calves, moving the brush in gentle, circular motions.

  7. Cover client’s legs with a Mylar sheet.
  8. Perform hand, arm and scalp massage.

  2. Hello!
Thank you for sharing these service options that are safe to perform while wearing masks.

I’m use to performing a back cleansing facial with steam. Now with COVID19 there has been talk about not using steam. What is the protocol you currently have in place regarding the use of steam?

    1. Thank you Carolyn for your comment.
I don’t have any medical data regarding the use of steam and COVID-19 nor have I seen such data.
If you have any medical data on this I would be happy to review.

  3. Good night I would be very grateful to get all the facials protocols now that I’m offering them in my spa.

    1. Thank you Diane, I will have someone reach out to you with protocols.
